Dr.
Frederick Woolverton, Ph. D., C.A.S. is a Founder and Director of The Village Institute for Psychotherapy. Dr. Woolverton is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in New York and Arkansas. He received his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, Adelphi University in 1982. He also holds a Diploma in Psychoanalysis and is a Certified Practitioner in Substance Abuse and Addictive Disorders.
Dr. Woolverton founded The Village Institute in 1994 in New York City. In 2005, Dr. Woolverton expanded The Village Institute to Fayetteville, Arkansas. He has been in private practice providing psychotherapy as well as substance abuse treatment for over 25 years. During that time, he has developed a unique form of therapy that emphasizes both swift behavioral change of immediate problems as well as the importance of insight into the origins of personal problems, which helps to make short-term changes well-rooted and long-lasting. His success in the treatment of substance abuse and addictive disorders has been reported in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post and numerous other publications.
Dr. Woolverton teaches courses to psychologists and other mental health professionals on how to effectively treat substance abuse disorders. Dr. Woolverton trains students, counselors and psychotherapists to be proactive and creative in the clinical work that they do with patients. Dr. Woolverton has also authored an American Psychological Association Continuing Education course titled: The Development of Addictive Disorders: Theory and Treatment and has co-authored a book about substance abuse disorders titled "Unhooked" which was published in January 2012.
In addition to his responsibilities as Director in both New York City and Fayetteville, Dr. Woolverton continues to provide psychotherapy to adolescents, adults and couples.
