Dr. Fred Woolverton Ph D


Dr. Frederick Woolverton is the founder and director of The Village Institute for Psychotherapy. Dr. Woolverton learned the art and science of psychotherapy at The Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies where he was awarded his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Ph.D.) in 1982. In 1990, he received his Certificate in Psychoanalysis, an advanced degree reflecting his love of and commitment to psychotherapy. Additionally, he is a licensed clinical psychologist in both New York and Arkansas and is a Certified Practitioner in Substance Abuse and Addictive Disorders.

Lauren Barnet licensed Clinical Psychologist


Dr. Lauren Barnet is a licensed Clinical Psychologist dedicated to the practice and training of psychotherapy. Since 2012, Dr. Barnet has been the Clinical Director at The Village Institute (New York) and oversees the quality of clinical services we provide. She is uniquely qualified given her extensive education and experience as a supervisor/clinician, her commitment to the practice of psychotherapy, and her belief in the importance of training therapists to be curious, engaged and creative. Dr. Barnet has contributed to the field of psychology through scholarly presentations and publications.

Josh Jonas Licensed Clinical Social Worker


Josh Jonas is a licensed Clinical Social Worker who, as Associate Director (New York) since 2014, serves as a valuable link between The Village Institute and the New York metropolitan area community. Josh combines his extensive psychotherapy experience and training with his previous background as an actor and writer, to introduce psychotherapy and its curative powers to people through community projects, lectures and articles/blogs. Additionally, he brings his creativity to the practice of psychotherapy at The Village Institute, challenging staff to incorporate engaging, effective strategies in their work. Our staff is selected based on their strong commitment to, and belief in, the practice of psychotherapy. Our staff shares the philosophy that becoming a psychotherapist is a lifelong pursuit that requires ongoing self-reflection, training, and practice. At The Village Institute for Psychotherapy, patients can be assured that their therapists have been hand-selected by the Director for their warmth, curiosity, and knowledge.
